Alaska Norwegian Joy Cruise 2019
A few weeks ago we set sail out of Seattle Washington for a week long cruise up through Alaska with a day in Victoria British Columbia on the way home. It was our first time cruising and the perfect get away for us. Chico tends to be extremely hot during summer months so escaping from the heat felt heavenly.
We booked this trip as soon as we found out we were pregnant with our #trebaby. We’ll be sharing more soon about that in case you missed it! It was the perfect mix of exploring and resting on the boat while traveling from port to port. What we loved so much about this trip was the flexibility and freedom we had. While on the boat, we could choose as much or as little as we wanted to do. I can see us in the near future taking our family on a big cruise together. Everyone can choose their own adventure and do as much or rest as much as you please.
After we set sail in Seattle, we headed to Ketchikan, Alaska, the salmon capitol of the world. This was the only day we booked an excursion through the cruise. We rode in Jeeps through the backcountry roads to see some of Alaska’s beautiful views. We then, kayaked across a small lake and had an Alaskan snack on the other side.
From there we headed to Juneau, Alaska. We opted to get off the boat as quickly as we could to try and beat the crowds to the famous Mendenhall Glacier. Juneau now has a few Lyft drivers so we opted to take a Lyft to the park instead of trying to rent a car or get a shuttle ride. While there we saw a baby bear in a tree, it was super cute.
After Juneau we went through a Glacier Point which was an incredible detour before making our way towards our last two stops. First stopping in Skagway and then in Victoria. Skagway, we also got off the ship and booked a bus and walking tour through a company right in downtown.
For Victoria, we found this AirBNB experience. We were the only ones on the tour and explored hidden secrets about the city. I highly recommend booking local experiences when you travel through AirBNB!
We love to shoot our personal work on medium format film. Once you look through the photos, I’m sure you’ll understand the depth and beauty only film can capture! We’ll treasure this trip for many years to come!
